Hey there! Betcha didn't know I existed. Betcha didn't realize that pinned in between those stark white industrial buildings there was an oasis. A place for the kids to follow a trail along the creek and smell the rosemary and eucalyptus in the air. A place filled with picnic benches set under oak trees and a grassy hill for you all to run down like Melissa Gilbert did so famously in the 70's. A place where you can foolishly touch a cactus fruit and prove that cacti do in fact "give ow" for a couple hours after contact. A place where you can wander along an almost dry creek bed and pretend you are in another world. Sure, you may hear the whiz of cars on the street nearby or the occasional clank of something industrial but you will also hear the rustle of the leaves in the breeze, the call of a hawk as it searches for prey and the laughter from your kids as they get to know another little pocket of the great outdoors.
Sure the Lake Forest Nature Park isn't the biggest or the best but its nature and its close to home. Its an escape from the norm and a wonderful place to spend the afternoon. If you don't live nearby I encourage you to find your own oasis and enjoy it with someone you love. The fresh air will do you all some good.
